We use Munin to graph various things in our network at work, and when I woke up this morning, I popped open a graph only to see, instead of the ~1500 max on the graph I was expecting, ~2B. Naturally, the “real” graph data was far too compressed to be readable or usable.

Quick research found a tool called “remove_spikes.pl” which is distributed by Tobias’ site. You can grab it from http://oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool/pub/contrib/removespikes.tar.gz. A quick run of this tool on my affected .rrd files, and all is well in the world of Munin again.
