Bride of Pinbot restoration continues
I spent a giant chunk of the weekend continuing the restoration of my Bride of Pinbot. I’m finally to the point where I start reassembling, rather than disassembling the machine. This is huge, as you start to feel all of the hard work finally pay off.
While the playfield will never be perfect, I’m really happy with the overall quality of the overlays I made. I just hope they aren’t too thick, as it would mean replacing them with something thinner, perhaps vinyl?
My hands are sore from all the sharp edges and my arms are tired from all the metal polishing, but I’m definitely on the upswing on this game, and can’t wait to get it playing. I’ll post pictures of my progress along the way at http://picasaweb.google.com/cmoates/BrideOfPinbot.

Hi Chris! I recently picked up a BoP game and like you, mine has some damage. It is good in some areas and bad in others. My left left is quite a bit like yours but not quite as bad.
I was wondering what you did to make your overlays. Do they affect the way the ball travels on the playing field? I would love to share some pictures with you and see what I can do with my BoP.
Anyhow your game is looking great! Love to hear some more about it.

I should eventually write up a full post on how I made the overlays. But in the mean time, you are welcome to share pictures of where your damage is. I used heavy photo stock, and there’s only one spot where I’ve had hangups, but if I had cut the overlay differently, it wouldn’t be a problem. Or if I’d used vinyl, which is significantly thinner. I’ll probably rework the one area (it’s the right inlane). I also haven’t levelled and angled the game properly yet, so it may go away once I have the angle set properly.
The whole overlay thing, for games that will never be “collector quality” is probably a great avenue to explore. But it seems that it’s not talked about too much. So yeah, let’s have more of a conversation about that, starting with the damage on your game.
